Magic and Spells

Some important things to know for performing magic spells:

PERFORM LIST will show you how many rituals you know in each type of magic.

PERFORM LIST (COMMON/SPIRIT/MENTAL/ALTER) will show you which spells you know in that realm of magic by their name and number.

RITUAL (#/name of ritual) will show you the steps to performing that ritual if you know it.

To learn new spells you need to go to the training Palaestra in Athens NW quadrant.  (DIR TRAINERS in the NW quadrant will tell you how to get there).  TRAIN WITH SELIAS IN (Common/Spirit/Mental/Alter) depending on what spell you wish to learn.  He will train you until you can't learn any more spells.  The amount of spells you can learn depends on your skills in magic.

It is helpful to be aligned to a diety.

ALIGNMENT will show you your current diety and also give the following information:

You may change your deity alignment by performing the following ritual.

1) Go into any temple or holy place.
2) Hold a candle in your right hand.
3) Type ALIGNMENT <The number of your deity choice>.

Example: ALIGNMENT 1 will set your alignment to Zeus.

As a magic user you will want to watch your IMPUDENCE.  If your impudence gets too high you will incur the wrath of the gods and they will slap you silly.
 
To lower your impudence wait a while or offer something to the gods in a temple or shrine. All the deities like laurel leaves.

There are four types of magic spells:  Commonality, Spiritual, Mental and Alteration.  To store a spell to use later you need to have a relic (relic, symbol or figurine) and perform the ritual mystic weave on it.  Then you can fill it with whichever spell you like.
 
To use a relic you must IDENTIFY the relic three times, doing so will give you important information about the spell held in the relic.  Then INVOKE the relic and CAST.  Some spells are cast on yourself and some are cast on others.
 
You can MEASURE the relic to get an idea of how many spells are held inside it.

The above list is for relics that hold 20 spells, as most do.  Some relics from special merchants or auctions hold more than 20 spells.

The STRIKE verb may be used with several spells.

This verb operates with the following spells:
  - Spirit Strike, Ritual 1001
  - Crushing Spirit, Ritual 1009
  - Cone of Cold, Ritual 1013
  - Spirit Freeze, Ritual 1017
  - Spirit Fire, Ritual 1021
 
Then it will tell you which strike you are set for, how much damage that strike can do normally and as a crit.
 
Please note that some spells can do above this range upon special circumstances.

To use a magic wand, scepter or staff you must hold the item in one hand and a relic filled with the spell you want in the other and then INVOKE (WAND/SCEPTER/STAFF).  WARNING!  Do NOT use expensive relics to fill your wand, scepter or staff because they will disappear when used!

Finally we get to a list of the spells!
 
*NOTE:  When you meditate don't do anything that might break your concentration or you'll have to start the spell over again.  You will know when you are ready for the next step in a ritual when you get the message that you feel utterly open to the world, to the universe, to everything.
Also, when you pray wait until your hands glow before casting.
 
The catagory for CAST means if they are self cast, cast on relics, cast on enemies, cast on items, cast on other players, etc....  I will be adding this as I find it out.
 
COMMONALITY:

Mystic Weave

Description of spell
Magic does not cling to a relic like goo, it must be woven into the very fabric of its existance.  The ritual of Mystic Weave grants the ability to change the fabric of a holy relic in such a way that it becomes capable of storing the essence of magical energy.

An unblessed relic, symbol or figurine

Sacred Blessing

4002
Description of spell
No relic great or small cannot benefit from the influence of the divine.  The Ritual of Sacred Blessing allows the pious priest to align a holy relic with the god of their following.
Equipment
An unaligned relic, symbol or figurine

Perform 4002.
Meditate in a temple of your deity.
Raise the relic to be targetted into the air.
Bless that same relic.
Kiss that same relic.
Pray.
Cast on your relic.
 

Thought Meditation
 
Spell Number
4003
Description of spell
The power of thought need not be restricted to the realm of one mind.  The ritual of Thought Focus grants the ability to send and receive the thoughts of others over great distances, as well as remove that ability once gained.
Equipment
A green candle
Steps
Perform 4003.
Light a green candle.
Pray.
Cast on person afflicted with madness curse.
 

Restorative Vanity
 
Spell Number
4004
Description of spell
The gods have many aspects powerful, fearsome and vane. The Ritual of Restorative Vanity can be used to cure the curse of unnatural hairloss. Know that this ritual requires the use of a mirror and a hair brush.
Equipment
A mirror and a hair brush.
Steps
Perform 4004.
Offer a mirror to your deity.
Touch your chin.
Touch your nose.
Touch your head.
Touch your hair.
Raise a brush high into the air.
Pray.
Cast on person afflicted with hairloss curse.
 

Relic Refreshment

4005
Description of spell
For every relic, there is a beginning to its history.  The Ritual of Relic Refreshment allows you to begin history again and clear all memory from a relic, so that it can be treated as one that has been newly prepared for the first time.
Equipment
A relic with a spell in it that you wish to clean out to put a different spell in.
Steps
Perform 4005.
Meditate in a temple of your deity.
Raise the relic to be targetted into the air.
Bless that same relic.
Kiss the relic.
Pray.
Cast on relic.
 

Right Mind Renovation
 
Spell Number
4006
Description of spell
The unbalanced mind of those marked insane provides us a brilliant example not of the parable: You are what you eat, but rather, You are where you think. The ritual of Right Mind Renovation allows the dedicated priest to cause the afflicted's mind to rebuild and redecorate it's right half, there providing reason for thoughts to return to this side and balance the mind.
Equipment
An unused white candle
Steps
Perform 4006.
Bless an unused white candle.
Light a blessed, unused, white candle.
Meditate.
Chant the following: Blessed flame run through the mind anew.
Pray.
Cast on person afflicted with madness curse.
 

Distant Gift

4007 --  OUT OF ORDER
Description of spell
Give me the beauty of an open sky above and I'll give you a gift from afar...  The ritual of Distant Gift grants you the power to give an object to someone who is far away from your location as long as both the giver and reciever have contact with the sky.
Equipment
A lynx skin
Steps
Perform 4007.
Offer the skin of a lynx to your deity.
Chant the name of your deity.
Pray.
Cast on relic.
 

Sight Impression

Description of spell

The power if the mind can serve as a mighty beacon for all to follow.  The ritual of Sight Impression sends your location to others through the power of thought.

Probing Sight
 
Spell Number
4009
Description of spell

Look beyond the eyes, for they are not the only givers of vision.  The ritual of Probing Sight allows you to look upon the contents of closed containers that would otherwise be hidden from the naked eye.

A healthy carrot.
Steps

Take one or two bites from a healthy carrot.
Offer the remaining part of the carrot to your deity.

Simulacrum Shaping

Description of spell

Combining the powers of mind and spirit opens new realms of possibility.  The ritual of Simulacrum Shaping allows you to send forth your image to impart messages.

Equipment
A mirror.

Bless a mirror.
Offer the blessed mirror.

Talisman Creation

Description of spell

For those who would seek the aid of the Gods with Piety's Prayer, first a talisman must be created of your blood, magic and strength.  The Ritual of Talisman Creation will allow the metamorphosing of a valuable gem into a powerful relic.  But beware, those who are injured may find the ritual costs are too high to pay.

Equipment
An unblessed, appraised gem of high value.
Steps
Perform 4011.
Bless an unblessed, appraised gem of high value.
Cut yourself.
Meditate and cast into the blessed gem.
 
 

Weapon Purification

Description of spell
At times the flames of Forges can become more hindrance than help.  The ritual Weapon Purification will clean a weapon of a Forge if the caster is strong enough.
Equipment
An unblessed weapon of low value.
Steps

Description of spell
Where there is smoke...  The ritual of Smoke Vapors creates a small cloud of smoky vapors and places them under your control for a time.

Blinding Light

Description of spell
A little extra light never hurt anyone, but has been known to give pause.  The ritual of Blinding Light grants you the power to direct a brilliant flash of blinding white light upon an enemy, causing momentary blindness.

Ophidian Summoning

Description of spell
...and the giant laughed at the snake's defiant hissing, chortling at the soft winding of its body... until he can no longer breathe and falls dead.  The ritual of Ophidian Summoning will call forth a serpent into your service.

Aura of Prosperity

Fortune need not only favor the foolish...  The ritual of Aura of Prosperity grants you increased luck for a time.

Petitioner's Gift

Description of spell
The gifts of humble prayer are not always overlooked by the gods in Olympus.  The ritual of Petitioner's Gift rewards the supplicant with the power to heal himself at an increased rate.

An item of moderate value.

Offer anything of moderate value to your deity.
Pray.

Feet of Clay

Description of spell
Hermes once said, "It is not the shoes I wear upon my feet, but what I choose not to wear."  The ritual of Feet of Clay grants you the power to cause a foe to slow down considerably as if their feet were immersed in clay.

Canine Summoning

Description of spell
Forget not the forests for in the daylight they are alive with stark beauty and grace, and at night with blood-red eyes and teeth.  The ritual of Wolf Summoning calls forth a wolf from the wild and places it under your service..

Crushing Spirit

Description of spell
When the spirit is harnessed by the strong will of its possessor, the results can be devastating upon whom it is unleashed.  The ritual of Crushing Spirit provides the caster with improved damage from physical means.

Will of Devotion

Description of spell
The power of love and zeal for the gods in Olympus can empower one to perform feets of great strength and bravery.  The ritual of Will of Devotion calls forth such a volition which causes one to ignore otherwise stunning attacks.

Spirit Lift

Description of spell
Trust not the ground beneath your feet, for it may choose to leave you when you least expect it.  The ritual of Spirit Lift grants you the power to cause a foe to temporarily lift away from the ground and be thrown back by spiritual forces.

A fair sized rock or stone.

Felidae Summoning

Description of spell
... and the young priestess came home, a large tiger trailing obediently behind her.  "Mom, can I keep it?"  The ritual of Summon Felidae calls forth a large cat and places it under your service.

Cone of Cold

Description of spell
Calling on the power of olympus, this ritual casts for the cold of the far north at your target.  STRIKE them with winters chill and reap the rewards.

Mantle of Righteousness

When a righteous man stands to defend his honor while donning robes of purity, not only does he know he is right, but others know it as well.  The ritual of Mantle of Righteousness calls forth the power of godly spirit which cloaks the caster with such utter confidence that his defensive skills increase for a time.

A blessed cloak, cape, or mantle.  **NOTE:  You will loose this item permanantly.

Touch of Might

If only I had the strength of Hercules, just for a moment...  The ritual of Touch of Might calls upon the gods to temporarily increase your strength for a short time.

Any type of bear pelt.

Ursus Summoning

Description of spell
... and the three bears wrought their vengence upon the yellow haired girl in their midst.  Perhaps she shouldn't have eaten their dinner.  The ritual of Summon Ursus calls forth a bear and places it under your service.

Spirit Freeze

The lack of one's spirit can be permanently damaging, even if only for the slightest moment.  The ritual of Spirit Freeze locks up the targets spirit which in turn causes them much suffering.

Atlas's Sneeze

Description of spell

What does the mighty Titan whose sole duty it is to hold up Olympus do when he has a tickle in his nose?  The ritual of Atlas's Sneeze causes the earth beneath you to shake, knocking down all hostile enemies in the room.

Wave the feather around.
Offer the feather to your deity.

Hand of Prometheus

Description of spell
It is the noble hand of the Titan Prometheus that has gotten man where he is today.  Just hope that he doesn't allow Epimetheus to handle the effects of this casting or things might get ugly!  The ritual of Hand of Prometheus mixes the health of the caster and the target, distributing the total evenly between the two.
Equipment
A candle.
Steps
Perform 1019.
Light a candle.
Meditate.
Bless the lit candle.
Offer the blessed candle to your deity.

Acolyte's Answering

Description of spell
A priest of such noble power surely has quite a following of his own.  The ritual of Acolyte's Answering calls forth an assistant of your race and places them under your service.

Piety's Prayer

When all else has failed and your life - like your power - is waning, focusing your spirit in a plea to the Gods may aid you.  The Ritual of Piety's Prayer will attract your deity's attention and they may choose to save you - should your peril be great enough.

Balefire

When fighting the cursed some strikes are not quite enough.  The ritual of Balefire grants a divine-powered strike that's particularly useful against the undead.

Acts of Faith

Description of spell
May faith in the gods bring quiet to your mind and peace to your heart.  The ritual of Acts of Faith brings you the ability to direct the power of your faith upon another, causing a more peaceful demeanor within their being and thus becoming much less likely to take hostile actions against others.

Grace of the Swift

Description of spell
Speed and grace are often the best defenses one has against an opponent.  This ritual will increase your Dodging and Acrobatics skills for a duration, if you are worthy.

Babylon's Golden Rule

2005
Description of spell
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  And if they do unto you in a way you don't like, force them to do it upon themselves.  The ritual of Babylon's Golden Rule causes the target to attack itself.

An edible fish or sardine
Steps
Perform 2005.
Offer an edible fish or sardine to your deity.
Pray.

Lost Passions

Description of spell
In the midst of battle, they seemed to lose the ardor of their souls.  The ritual of Lost Passion grants the power to weaken the spirit of a foe, making them less dangerous offensively.

Tears of Joy

Description of spell
What power hath joy to cause such emotional whiplash?  The ritual of Tears of Joy grants you the ability of cause such joy in a foe that they break out into tears.

Thought Vision

2008
Description of spell
With mind and body split, how does one define here or there?  The ritual of Thought Vision allows the caster to catch a fleeting glimpse of a remembered location, or person who is elsewhere.

Offer a healthy carrot to your deity.
Gaze at your surroundings while hidden.
Pray.
Cast on relic.
 

Eye of the Hummingbird

2009
Description of spell
Precision of motion can only be acquired with speed of mind.  The ritual of Eye of the Hummingbird speeds up the target's thoughts to process visual stimuli more quickly, thereby granting him or her greater coordination.
Equipment
A hummingbird's feather.
Steps
Perform 2009.
Blessing a hummingbird's feather.
Wave that feather around.
Offer the feather to your deity.
Pray.
Cast on relic.
 

Thought Punch

2010
Description of spell
Why bother your hands with a task your mind can do on its own?  The ritual of Thought Punch creates an illusion which you can direct upon a foe, making them feel a physical strike that can inflict real damage and often times causing them to lose their balance.
Equipment
