Lockpicking

Home | Heartsong's Crocheted Treasures | The Lost Fates | Alliance of Heroes | What is RP? | Heartsong's Artistry | Artists of Athens | Real Life Stuff | Modus Operandi

There are different types of boxes; boxes, chests, coffers, trunks and strongboxes.  For this I am just going to refer to them all as boxes.

There are also different types of traps; bones, poison, crystal, gas cloud, etc....  All are disarmed with the same command.

To pick boxes first thing you need to do is EXAMINE it.  This will tell you what type of trap, lock and difficulty it has.

Next you'll want to DISARM your (BOX).  Beware, if you set off a trap inside city limits you could get arrested for disturbing the peace.  If a guard finds you, you could be put in jail and have to pay a fine or do a service to make up for it.

Now, remember what type of lock was on the box, get out the type of lockpick for that type of box (make sure it's the right gauge, too).  You can use the table below to pick the right type and gauge of lockpick.
Now PICK (BOX) WITH MY LOCKPICK.  If you're lockpick is in a case you can PICK (BOX) WITH MY PICK.  I'll describe lockpick cases and the verbs for them below.

Lockpick cases:

You can buy lockpick cases for each of the types of lockpicks.  There are special verbs with the cases and you don't have to take the lockpicks out of the cases to use them to pick boxes.

I will list the special verbs as soon as I can.

How to make lockpicks:

The first thing you will need to do is to find the shop where the lockpick making tools are sold.  I will not put that information here because it is a secret shop.  I'm sure you if you ask someone who knows they MIGHT tell you were it is.

Supplies:

A template (They come in all the varieties that lockpicks come in)
A lockpick blank (difficulty levels vary; bronze is easiest, then silver, iron, steel and platinum, which is very difficult)
A knife
A thin file
A sandstone grinding stone (or you can use the stone in the shop)
A bottle of dye (optional)

Steps:

1. Put template on blank
2. Carve blank with knife
3. Grind lockpick
4. Use file on lockpick
5. Pour dye on lockpick (optional)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  To Tennetty for doing the research and letting me know the steps for lockpick making!
